On 20th June 2013 Interchange Limited (Solomon Islands) a subsidiary of Interchange (Vanuatu) submitted a licence application with the Telecommunications Commission in Honiara. This is the first step towards establishing submarine fibre optic telecommunications cable diversity for Vanuatu and Solomon Islands. Interchange plans to link into the global network at Honiara via the Solomons Oceanic Cable Company network which is expected to be operational in 2014.
Interchange aims to have completed our cable linking Port Vila to Honiara by Dec 2014 subject to permits and licensing success. This proposed cable shall also include a spur to Vanuatu’s largest island, Espirito Santo.
