Subsea Cable

In 2014, Interchange completed the Interchange Cable Network 1 (ICN1) – a USD 32 million cable in collaboration with French telecommunications corporation Alcatel-Lucent to deploy Vanuatu’s first international submarine cable system. The cable connects Port Vila to Suva, Fiji, where it links Vanuatu to the high-capacity Southern Cross submarine cable between Sydney and the United States’ west coast.

The existing subsea cable was upgraded in 2025 from 30GB to 300GB capacity, boosting capacity by 1000 per cent. French company Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN) completed the upgrade, making use of Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE) and SMAT3 technology, a state-of-the-art innovation provided by ASN deployed for the first time in the world.

IP Transit

IP transit offers the most straightforward connection routes for our customers. We designed our network to meet the high demands of telecommunications operators and internet service providers (ISPs), and we offer management from end to end.

Redundancy across oceans

Our primary network route is carried via the Interchange Cable Network 1 (ICN1) to connect in Fiji with the Southern Cross cable system, allowing for routes to Sydney, Australia, and San Jose, United States. The second 'Tamtam' subsea cable will also offer an alternate path through New Caledonia. With multiple failover paths, Vanuatu is an attractive location for safe and secure data storage.
