Interchange Hosts Regional Telecommunications Conference

27 APRIL 2024 – Interchange Limited is hosting the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Business Forum and Expo of the Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association (PITA) next week at Warwick Le Lagon resort in Port Vila, Vanuatu. More than 250 guests from around the world are expected to attend the conference from as far away as Trinidad and Tobago, Spain, Sri Lanka and Tahiti representing contrasting locations from Vanuatu. The meeting will be held from 29 April to 2 May 2024.

“We are delighted to come back to Vanuatu as the next destination to hold the PITA 28th AGM, Business Conference and Expo. After 10 years, it will also be nostalgic with the opportunity for many members arriving for this meeting to witness first-hand and appreciate all the new developments that Vanuatu will showcase,” said PITA Manager Fred Christopher. “It is crucial for the development of these small island nations to have regular forums to exchange on ideas and improvement in a challenging environment where populations are dispersed across many islands and over large distances.”

PITA is a non-profit organisation formed to represent the interests of Pacific Islands in the field of telecommunications. Based in Suva, Fiji, PITA was formed in 1996 in response to specific regional circumstances with the goal of providing a forum for those involved with telecommunications in the Pacific, to exchange experiences, to help formulate solutions relevant to the region, to provide training opportunities and the regular exchange of information, and to be a Pacific voice in the international communications environment.

Attendees will be made up of representatives from Member countries, development partner agencies, telecommunications entities from Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand, Government and telecom/ICT policy and regulatory agencies, and Associate Members who are industry players from around the world including suppliers and manufacturers of telecommunication technologies, solutions, equipment and services.

“The Pacific Islands is a unique region that is defined by its culture of community and collaboration,” said Interchange General Manager Niall Downey. “Telecommunications strategy has been too focused on the short term for the last two decades. We need long-term goals and the PITA conference is a fantastic opportunity for Vanuatu and the Pacific Islands to have all the right people in the room sharing experiences and making plans for the future of this region.”

The theme of this year’s meeting is Bridging the sustainable future; Navigating innovation in a disruptive telecom landscape.

Over the four days there will be an AGM, plenary sessions, concurrent breakouts, bilateral and social networking, and exhibits on display throughout the day.
